November 3rd

Uncategorized Oct 02, 2020

I spent the presidential debate dancing to Mt. Joy. I stood in the rain. My mind open, my heart full.

Surrounded by mothers. Lovers. Young ones. Old souls. City beings and country folks.

Vehicles of all kinds, driving us there just the same. Diverse backgrounds, bringing us to one moment. One place.

I joked with humans I had never met before. I heard ladies laughing in the bathroom about angry bosses, keeping score.

The employees wore masks. All I could see were their eyes. Sharing helpful directions and kind welcomes despite standing on muddy grounds under dark skies.

The band took the stage and the crowd went wild. All of us connected, even just for a little while.

I looked around, and couldn’t help, but think. How can we come together for a song so easily?

We all have different stories to tell. We all have battles to overcome. But when the music begins, we all sing the same hum.

We all want the same thing. We all dance to the same beat. We all scream into the night. We all feel happy. Free.

And I know life’s not that simple. I know a show is an escape. But what if we took that feeling home with us? What if we changed the game?

What if we stopped spreading hate? What if we weren’t so quick to judge? What if we quit fighting each other, and started fighting for love?

I spent the presidential debate dancing to Mt. Joy. I stood in the rain. My mind open, my heart full.

And on November 3rd, I’ll stand in line. Once again, next to you. Singing that same hum. Hoping you will, too.
